Date and muhurat
Lakshmi Puja is performed on Amavasya during Pradosh Kaal, ideally within the Sthir Lagna (Vrishabha). Exact timings vary by city, so check your local Panchang.
Simple puja steps
A heartfelt puja matters more than an elaborate one. A simple sequence:
- Clean the home and decorate the entrance with rangoli.
- Place idols of Lakshmi and Ganesha on a clean red cloth.
- Light diyas, offer flowers, sweets and recite the Lakshmi mantra.
- End with aarti and share prasad with family.
The meaning behind the lights
Diwali celebrates the victory of light over darkness. Astrologically, the new moon is a time to set intentions for prosperity and let go of what no longer serves you.
